The Client
Simon Winterflood is a creative director for a prominent advertising agency and is the winner of several advertising awards including the Gold Cannes. He became aware of Kennovations’ services through the internet. His relationship with Kennovations began with a free consultation and he is now developing his second product with the team.
The Product
The Bookman is designed to hold books open while the reader multitasks. What distinguishes it from similar products is its flexibility, unique shape, compact size and specific surface finish.
The Design Process
The client had a complete idea of what he wanted to achieve so he held the reigns of the concept development process while Kennovations provided the advice on the best means to attain the envisaged result. Material selection was a crucial aspect of the product, so after detailed design analysis and prototype testing, a plastic material was decided on which had the flexibility required. The size of the product meant that it couldn’t afford to have the marks commonly left by injection moulds. A strategic way of positioning and removing the product from the manufacturing mould was devised so that it could be ejected with minimal vestige.
The Result
The product has been packaged for worldwide retailing. The first run entails 10,000 units; the client aims for eventual production numbers of 100,000's.
