The Client
In 2008 Barefoot Power engaged Kennovations to manage the design & development of a solar rechargeable LED lamp aimed directly at the underprivileged population in developing countries who are currently forced to spend over US$10 billion each year on kerosene for lighting.
The Product
The essential brief for the project involved taking an existing solar rechargeable lamp and make it cheaper, better, stronger, more versatile and better looking. The result is The FIREFLY lamp. The solar and mains rechargeable FIREFLY LED Lamp features a beautifully simple, robust, durable electronic and battery protection, solar panel and LED circuit fully encased in a tough, glass filled nylon casing for maximum strength and durability. When fully charged the FIREFLY is capable of providing 8 – 10hrs of useful light, with a pivoting stainless steel arm enabling the FIREFLY to be used as a desk light, wall light, hanging light and torch.
The Destination
Barefoot Power is currently negotiating manufacturing and distribution rights for the FIREFLY Lamp in Africa and South America. Barefoot Power was listed as No.11 in Australian Anthills “Smart 100” list which recognises Australian Business successfully using innovation to achieve a global success.
